Meaning:
Ayurveda is made
up of two Sanskrit words of Ayu
which means life and Veda means the
knowledge.According to the ancient ayurvedic the “ayu” is comprised of four
essential parts they are mind, body, senses and the soul.
Mind, Body and Senses:
The mind and the
body works in conjunction with one another to regulate the body.In order for our
mind to act accordingly to assist the physical body we must use our senses of
information. We can think mind as the computer and senses as the data which gets
entered into the computer.Smell and taste are the two important things in the
digestive process when the mind registers the particular food is entering,it
directs the body accordingly by releasing various digestive enzymes. However,if
the taste buds with too much of certain taste such as sweet, we may find the
ability of the mind to perceive the sweet taste is impaired. So that
maintaining the clarity of our senses is an essential part in allowing the mind
and body to integrate their functions and to keep healthy and happier of
individuals.
Principles:
In Ayurveda we
see a person of individual made up of five primary elements those elements are space, air, water, fire and earth.Just as
in nature we too have these five elements within us.while we are composite of
five elements certain elements are seen to have the ability to combine to
create various functions.Ether and Air combine to form what is known as vatadosha in Ayurveda.Vata has the
principle of movement and by that we can see that the force which directs the
nerve impulses, circulation and respiration.Fire and Water combines to form the pitta dosha. The pitta dosha is the process of transformation or
metabolism. The transformation of foods into nutrients the body can assimilate which
is an example of pitta dosha.
Finally the water and the fire combines to form the kaphadosha. Function of kaphadosha is
to provide the protection. We are all made up of vata, pitta and kapha. These
ratios of doshas vary in each individuals.
Conclusion:
By this we can
understand that we are all unique individuals Ayurveda enables to address not
only health concerns but also offers explanation of why one person is responds
differently from one another.
